Abilities In Action Advocacy Group
   
What is an advocacy group?
 

 

A group that meets to speak on behalf of themselves or a group of people who want to get something done or to make change somewhere in their community, city, or in society as a whole.

Who is in this advocacy group?

Individuals who want to make positive changes in the quality of lives with persons with disabilities. (Developmental, Cognitive, Physical).

What does Abilities In Action advocate for?

The topics of discussion can be about anything!

Common issues talked about today are:

•  Low-income housing

•  DATS Transportation

•  Funding Cutbacks

•  Employment services for individuals with disabilities

What types of events & activities do Abilities In Action get involved in?

In the past, this group has actively participated in city-wide rallies, petitions, fundraiser's, town hall meetings, and has volunteered at city-wide festivals. Wherever there is an opportunity to be involved in community, Abilities In Action is there!

When does the Abilities in Action advocacy group meet?

Every 2 nd Monday of the month from 5pm-6:30pm at the SKILLS Office.

Marla Petecki

She wanted to write to Politicians and let them know what's happening and the concerns about cutbacks.

The cutbacks are not fair

  So she invited some of the self advocates to a letter writing pizza party...
