People Safe from Abuse”

The first day includes conversations about values, language and exploring our own experiences through connecting with others.   There will also be opportunities to explore person-centred planning.

The second day allows an opportunity to reflect on the incidence and causes of abuse. It will look at how we at SKILLS are going to nurture and create an environment that keeps people safe from abuse and that is hostile for abusers.

NONVIOLENT CRISIS INTERVENTION

RECERTIFICATION

 This workshop is geared towards all front line staff. You will learn how to avoid behavioral crisis situations. De-escalating procedures will also be examined for when escalation does occur.

Topic Items Reviewed will be:

•  SKILLS Restrictive Procedures Policy

Preventative Techniques
-N
onverbal techniques useful in the prevention of acting out behavior
-Verbal techniques to be implemented when de-escalation of verbal acting out is necessary

Therapeutic Physical Intervention
-Team intervention strategies and techniques
-Physical personal safety techniques to avoid client and staff injury if   behavior escalates to a physical level

Postvention Techniques
-Therapeutic postvention techniques to be implemented after acting out   behavior has occurred, to aid the individual in coping with crisis   situations
