Citizenship

At the heart of our work is the belief that the supports SKILLS provides are effective in assisting people with developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries to build good lives for themselves, rich in learning, relationships and meaning.

SKILLS support children, adults and seniors, along with their families and allies.

Society has been involved in providing supports to people living in Edmonton and surrounding communities since 1981.

Supports are provided with funding from two Alberta Government Ministries: Children and Youth Services and Seniors and Community Supports. SKILLS also fund raises to support operations and innovation.

We define ourselves by our commitments to:

  • Providing supports that are flexible, person-centred and focus on quality of life.
  • Valuing the skills, knowledge, gifts and contributions of a workforce that is rich in diversity.
  • Partnerships with like-minded people and organizations that further the work we do and help build community.
  • Advocacy as an integral part of our mandate.
  • Collecting stories through a variety of mediums including writing, film, art and photography.
