Who we are?
SKILLS Society (charitable number 10798 4403 RR0001)
- Provides community supports to approximately 550 people with disabilities in Edmonton and Surrounding communities
- Is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors
- Employs about 400 staff
- Is funded by two provincial departments: Seniors and Community Supports and Children's Services
What we do?
- Individuals (children, adults & seniors) who have developmental disabilities or acquired brain injuries and their families choose community supports that are best suited to them. Supports are flexible and range from a few hours a week to 24 hours per day.
- Community Support Workers assist individuals in their daily living such as personal care, accessing transportation, cooking and grocery shopping, medical appointments, banking, homework, finding safe and affordable housing…
- People's gifts, dreams and hopes are central to the work of supporting people with disabilities…to act as full citizens, who make worthwhile contributions to their community.
- Community Support Workers assist individuals in valued community roles of: employee, neighbour, student, patron, volunteer, athlete, artist, club member, leader…
SKILLS is proud of our:
- 25 years of leadership and innovation in Community Disabilities Services
- Partnerships with the Greater Edmonton Foundation Housing for Seniors and Capital Region Housing Corporation to find safe, accessible and affordable housing
- Involvement in Advocacy
- Support to the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts
- Relationships with Colleges and Universities as a learning site for students
